My last post was an update in my ketogenic diet experiment, specifically that I had ended it summing up the points I mentioned. I absolutely believe in a low carbohydrate, high fat diet (which is exactly what the ketogenic diet is), but why didn't it work well for me (seemingly)? So this past week I decided to go onto YouTube and watch any and all ketogenic diet videos explained by doctors that I could. Doctors that have "made the switch" from conventional thinking and what they are taught about nutrition in medical school (not much nutritional training at all for MDs) that is. I stumbled on a doctor named Stephen Phinney and have watched over 10 hours of his educational lectures and have decided to give it a go again. I am still food journaling (didn't take any breaks from that over the last several weeks). I believe keeping a food journal throughout all this will and has definitely been a huge help to me. I have made some changes based on the new things I've learned (ratios of proteins, fats and carbohydrates and how calculating them exactly may be what is recognized on paper and "by your mouth", but maybe not recognized as the same ratios once inside your body [ie: your intake of fat will not be exactly what you are burning if you have your own substantial fat stores to burn], and also learned I may not have been eating enough salt. I have always said I don't do well with a lot of salt, but it could just be dogma from what we've all been taught by the powers that be in the health community. If you are interested in Dr. Phinney's teachings, by all means go to YouTube and do some digging. Hopefully I will be able to update my Recipes section this week on my website. Be well and until next time...
